What Is Drywall & Insulation?

Drywall (also called gypsum board or sheetrock) creates smooth interior walls and ceilings that can be painted or finished. Insulation installed behind drywall provides thermal comfort, energy efficiency, and sound control. Together, they transform framed spaces into comfortable, finished rooms. Professional installation ensures perfectly flat, seamless surfaces with invisible joints and screws. Quality workmanship means no cracks, bumps, or imperfections—just smooth walls ready for your chosen finish.

Common questions

What insulation is used in an exterior wall or basement?

It depends on the assembly and whether it is above or below grade — batt, rigid board and spray foam each suit different situations, and below-grade walls need the moisture and vapour behaviour handled correctly. The choice is matched to the wall and the local code minimums.

Why does new drywall crack at the corners?

Usually seasonal movement or a taping detail rather than a structural fault — corners and seams move with humidity and settlement. Proper fastening, taping and giving the building time to settle before final paint reduce it; some hairline movement is normal in any house.

How long does drywall take before it can be painted?

Boarding is quick, but taping and mudding is a multi-day process because each coat of compound has to dry before the next, and sanding follows. The finish level you want — a flat paint hides less than a smooth sheen — affects how many coats are needed.
